Topic Reading-Vol.251-12/18/2012

Dear MEL School’s Topic Readers,
Ravi Shankar, Indian sitar maestro, dies.
When you hear any traditional or even contemporary Indian music, you’ll most likely enjoy the mysterious and ethnical sound of the sitar, an Indian musical instrument like the guitar but with over 20 strings. When a scene of India is shown on the screen, you’ll hear its sound, like the sound of Koto in Japan, or when you hear the sound of the citar, you'll remember a scene of India.
Ravi Shankar was the most renowned musician not only in India but also in the world of music. Both his wife and one of his daughters are sitar players and another daughter is a Grammy award-winning singer, Norah Jones.
Enjoy reading, learning and listening what the maestro, sitar and his music are about.
