Topic Reading-Vol.289-1/25/2013

Dear MEL School’s Topic Readers,
Hong Kong's mounting food waste problem.
Most of you know that Hong Kong offers delicious cosines and also that the residents of seven million in the tiny place love eating out. But not so many of you have ever thought about what they are doing with 3,500 tons of unwanted food that is filling the city’s landfills, or garbage mountains, daily. Another staggering fact is that as much as 40% of food there is uneaten in the city where only a small amount of food is produced from its land.
Enjoy reading and learning what sorts of solutions are being taken or underway.
