Boycott threat over rare New Zealand dolphin

Does it sound too radical to boycott seafood in order to save an endangered sea mammal? Well, in the case of the Maui's dolphin, the world's smallest and scarcest sub-species whose population is as small as 50, it might be necessary to take an urgent, decisive and collaborative action. That is why environmentalists are threatening to call a boycott of New Zealand's seafood industry. The dolphin that those environmentalists are trying to save is found only in shallow waters near the coast of north New Zealand. The fishing industry that is threatened for boycott is critical for the country’s economy, generating NZ$1.5 billion annually whose customers include China, Australia the EU and US.

The question is what specific action could save this rarest species from extinction?
