Defection.
It is not just an act of leaving a country to go to another. One who intends to
defect from an authoritarian country like North Korea must be determined to
abandon everything and everyone because defection is an utmost betrayal to the
regime. Imagine how hard for this high-profile diplomat of North Korea to lose
his country, status and privileges, and friends and loved ones. Instead, he now
has to worry about his family’s safety and security for the rest of his life
unless the regime collapses even with the protection by the South Korean
government.
